Sunn Mustang
This
guitar was another car boot purchase. It was actually in pretty good condition.
I only had to clean it up, re string and add a whammy bar. The guitar looks
good, played OK and sounded OK through an amp. Nothing to get exited about
though.
The interesting thing about this is that it carries the words "Sunn Mustang
an authorised Fender product" on the headstock. Clearly there is some fender
connection, but why "Mustang" This guitar is nothing like a Fender Mustang. I
did some research and discovered that in the late 1980's Fender licensed the
Stratocaster design to manufacturers in India and China. There, they made very
cheap Stratocaster copies that entered the US by the name Squier and the rest of
the world by the name Sunn. This is probably one of those.
I regret selling this guitar because it would have been a great vehicle for
testing out different electrical ideas. (I quite fancy wiring a Strat type
guitar in the style of Brian Mays "Red Special") I had only recently purchased
my Yamaha Pacifica, which is a similar style of guitar, so this one had to be
listed on e-bay soon after purchase.
